Getting TVs from such super popular tech giants like Samsung and LG, you expect that the picture quality will be at least acceptable. Especially, for such a high price. Having an opportunity to compare LG 86UH9500 vs Samsung UN82MU8000, I can attest that their overall capabilities are really impressive.
The LG 86UH9500 (UH9500 series) was presented in 2016. Its forte is a vibrant IPS 4K Quantum display with over a billion rich colors. Samsung model (MU8000 series) is newer, being released in 2017. It features Ultra HDTV — one of the best and well-known technologies for an improved high dynamic range picture with deep colors.
The first thing that I noticed testing the TVs from Samsung is the realistic contrast between the darkest and the lightest colors. The lifelike colors were also a pleasant surprise, but the Triple Black technology amazed me the most: it makes dark movie scenes much more distinguishable. However, some users may not like the level of clouding.
The model from LG also showed a decent picture. I was impressed with its fast-moving action scenes reproduction (virtually without any motion blur), but it has a little worse black color than the Samsung UN82MU8000.
It’s clear that premium-quality TVs have more advanced features than budget ones. The LG 86UH9500 takes the leading place in this regard. For example, it can reproduce video content in 3D format and has much better built-in speakers: 80W surround speakers versus 40W stereo speakers of the Samsung model. However, both these models have a DTS decoder, so a cinematic sound is not a problem for both of them.
Comparing Samsung UN82MU8000 vs LG 86UH9500 Internet movie streaming services, I discovered that LG’s model doesn’t have HBO, which is, to my opinion, a significant disadvantage. However, both models support Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, and Vudu. The Samsung UN82MU8000 is also able to stream HBO and Google Play.
These models have a bit different screen sizes: the Samsung UN82MU8000 has 82 inches, and the LG 86UH9500 has 86 inches. They both have removable stands but look completely different: the Samsung model leans on four legs, while the LG model stands on oblong solid pedestal.
