During this Samsung UN55NU6900FXZA review, I figure out that this TV has a lot of great features such as Full HD quality and ideal Wi-Fi connecting. This TV (series NU6900) was released in 2018 and i...Read More
Testing TCL 49S405 vs Samsung UN55NU6900FXZA, I was impressed by their capabilities, especially taking into account their affordable price. The TV from Samsung, with powerful UHD engine that upscales non-4K TV content to 4K, was released in 2018 (NU6900 series). The TCL 49S405 (S405 series) is an older model, as it was released in 2017. It features 4K Ultra HD so there are no problems with reproducing 4K content with the highest possible quality (in accordance with the price, of course).
Thanks to Direct-lit LED, the TCL 49S405 produces a high-quality picture. This feature is especially remarkable when you watch fast-moving scenes: the motion blur is barely noticeable. The Samsung model has Motion Rate 120 for this purpose: the smooth action on fast-moving content isn’t a problem for this model as well. However, I noticed that the Samsung UN55NU6900FXZA’s display seem to be glossy when direct sunlight hits the screen, especially when you compare it to TCL’s model picture in a sunlit room.
Both of the compared TVs have a large variety of supported video file formats, being able to reproduce video content in AVI, WMV, MKV, TS, and MP4 (the Samsung UN55NU6900FXZA also can play video content in 3GPP, M2TS, WebM, ASF).
Both of the present models allow getting to the most popular streaming services, like Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Amazon video. The TCL’s model also gives access to FOX, CBS News, VEVO, SHOWTIME.
Comparing how Samsung UN55NU6900FXZA vs TCL 49S405 sound, I noticed a great difference between their built-in speakers almost immediately: the Samsung model sounds louder and more volumetric. Logically, the reason for it is more powerful 20W stereo speakers with DTS decoder versus 16W speakers integrated into TCL’s TV. However, both of their built-in dynamics don’t sound powerful enough to create great home theater, but a couple of more powerful external speakers can easily fix it.
These TVs have different screen sizes: the Samsung UN55NU6900FXZA has 55 inches, while TCL 49S405 has 49 inches. In general, they both are slim, have a black cabinet, stay on reliable stands, and have no issues with wall mounting. The TCL’s model has much more minimalist and easy-to-use remote, with 20 buttons on it, while the one from Samsung is more multifunctional and bigger in size.
