The picture quality is great bright and clear with great color and contrast. This is a budget TV, but only this TV will give you a real 4K Ultra HD just for $250-$300. Agree, it is very beneficial if...Read More
The Sceptre U550CV-U vs TCL 55S405 comparison shows that they both are budget models with medium screen size (55 inches), suitable for those who need nothing more but a sturdy TV with great functionality.
The TCL 55S405 (S405 series) was manufactured in 2017. The unit is provided with the Direct-lit LED technology, which gives very clear vision. The U550CV-U was released as a part of the budget 0CV Sceptre series in 2016. It uses UHD to improve the quality of the reproduced content with strong brightness.
The Sceptre U550CV-U turns out to be more moderate regarding picture quality if you compare it to the TV from TCL. It doesn’t have any additional technologies to cope with fast-moving scenes, to improve picture contrast, etc. This model just displays content with better quality than a usual Full HD TV does. In the same time, its competitor is supplied with the High Dynamic Range technology, which improves the TV’s performance with realistic colors. However, both TVs are based on the 4K Ultra HD so they do provide a high level of picture clarity.
The TVs have an identical set of supported video file formats, being able to work with AVI, WMV, MP4, and MKV. They both are supplied with stereo speakers that don’t feature any surround sound technologies. So if you want to reach a cinematic sound, it’s better to look for a more advanced sound system. However, I’d like to note that the Sceptre U550CV-U has more powerful dynamics in comparison with the TCL 55S405: 20W versus 16W.
The connectivity possibilities of both units met my expectations. The Sceptre U550CV-U has 4 HDMI ports which allow connecting up to four devices at once, and the TCL model has just one less. As for the rest, they both have a USB port, composite video input, Ethernet, optical and analog audio inputs. The wireless connection is provided by Wi-Fi.
The first thing that I’ve noticed comparing TCL 55S405 vs Sceptre U550CV-U was a very wide stand attached to Sceptre’s TV. It doesn’t look too aesthetic, but it is definitely more reliable than the one from TCL’s unit. The borders around the display is another distinguishing feature: the Sceptre U550CV-U is almost frameless, while the TCL 55S405 has quite noticeable black borders around the screen.
The TCL 55S405 is better TV in this comparison. Check TCL 55S405 price
