I was really excited to test and compare 9.2-channel Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080 and 11.2-channel Onkyo TX-RZ3100 AV receivers. Yamaha and Onkyo offer us stable high quality. The receivers let you enjoy surround sound. Onkyo TX-RZ3100 provides Theater-Dimensional Virtual Surround, meanwhile, Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080 presents Virtual CINEMA.
HDMI pass-through provides upscaling up to 4K in both units. Along with HDCP 2.2 protocol, they guarantee an excellent picture. Yamaha, as well as Onkyo, sounds great. However, the TX-RZ3100 has richer sound thanks to the support of all popular formats, including DTS Neural:X and Dolby surround, which Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080 doesn’t support. Both receivers have high output power per channel (140W in Onkyo and 150W in Yamaha) that is important when you have quite demanding speakers.
Onkyo TX-RZ3100, as well as Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080, supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Both worked well when testing. RX-A3080 provides AirPlay, Spotify Connect, and MusicCast multi-room. It also works with Amazon Alexa. Meanwhile, the TX-RZ3100 offers you Chromecast built-in, AirPlay, tune in radio, Pandora, Spotify, Tidal, and Deeper for app-based Audio streaming. So both receivers are well-equipped to let you enjoy your favorite music content.
The devices can boast of the connectors number. There are 8 AV and 8 HDMI inputs in Onkyo TX-RZ3100 versus 9 AV and 7 HDMI in Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080. The plugs connections deploy in the nests tightly and don’t cause any complaints. Another Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080 vs Onkyo TX-RZ3100 feature to compare is the setup process. The TX-RZ3100 seemed a bit complicated to set up. I didn’t use auto calibration because it sounded a bit flat and tuned the device on the remote. In case of the AVENTAGE RX-A3080, the auto setup sound was fine, so it didn’t take much time to tune the system.
Onkyo TX-NR737 has its usual big knob on the right. There are many small buttons right above it and several other buttons on the left. The LCD is traditionally in the middle of the front panel. Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3080 has its typical design with 2 big knobs on both sides and the LCD between them. All ports are located on the back panel. The receivers have classic black color and will fit any interior.
Onkyo TX-RZ3100 is better receiver in this comparison. Check Onkyo TX-RZ3100 price
