Onkyo TX-NR585 vs Onkyo TX-NR575 back

You can control the entire system of TX-NR585 in several ways. In addition to the usual remote control, you can install the Onkyo Controller or Onkyo Music Control app on your iOS or Android device. In addition, voice control using Google Assistant is available through Android phones, iPhone, Google Home, and other compatible devices. The sound of TX-NR575 is fantastic and has plenty of power for 5.0 speaker setup. You just set the speakers to full and turned off the subs. The result will amaze you.

Connections & Setup

If we compare both receivers in power they have plenty of power and clean audio. I really like having so many HDMI inputs with audio pass through. The setup and settings are done through the HDMI to a projector or TV. It's very easy to navigate. Onkyo made it all make sense. And it steps you through the system as well as checking your equipment connections. you can always go back and rerun the setup at any time. I spent more time connecting wires and cleaning up all the cables versus setting up the system.

Design

Onkyo does look like many of its relatives. These are all black boxes, and they have knobs on. So the design is simple and strict, you may like it or not, but that is the Onkyo style.

Onkyo TX-NR585 pros & cons

Pros:

  • The Onkyo TX-NR585 offers a wealth of connectivity and streaming options without sacrificing sound quality.
  • Good UI.
  • Onkyo’s AccuEQ Room Acoustic Calibration and AccuReflex technologies automatically tailor the sound to your room and speaker layout.

Cons:

  • The redundant, proprietary FlareConnect system offers mirroring functionality that can be replicated with Play-Fi.

Onkyo TX-NR575 pros & cons

Pros:

  • I like the pass-through in mini player mode.
  • The bass mix is always right, at any volume, (except volumes low enough that the sub auto shuts off).

Cons:

  • The network 'input' stages work badly.
  • Using a single network input to feed both zones is impossible.
  • Chromecast support is audio-only (not a big deal for my use case, but probably an issue for those using it as a real AVR).
