Marantz SR5012 vs Marantz SR6012 – the Powerful Modern Receivers

The results of my test Marantz SR6012 vs Marantz SR5012 are to help to choose between 6012’s 9 channels for $899 and 5012’s 7 channels for $599.

Features & Performance

Marantz SR6012 is a device with the low distortion. Its standard parameters are great even without the additional room settings. Marantz SR6012 vs SR5012 is the 900W vs 700W, so SR6012 provides the better sound in the large spaces. Marantz SR6012’s power and 9 channels are necessary for the owners of the new Atmos systems. If compare the power consumption, Marantz SR6012’s one is too high, you should think about the model SR5012 for saving energy.

Marantz SR5012 gives the excellent sound in both stereo and surround due to the great work of 4K/Dolby Vision. There is the Audyssey MultEQ XT for auto calibration and the Dynamic Volume for the real-time volume correction. It gives less output power per channel (100W) in comparison with SR6012 (110W), though the difference is subtle for an average user.

Connections & Setup

Marantz SR6012 integrates with TV sound seamlessly. It supports Dolby Atmos tech that makes the ceiling speakers’ sound deep and robust. It is possible to add more ceiling speakers to increase the soundstage. It has no individual EQ adjustments that make impossible to correct the tone balance for a perfect sound on small volume.

Marantz SR5012’s inputs give the opportunity to watch the same video from 2 monitors both in the same room or in the different rooms, but it doesn’t include the phono input as SR1602 has.

Design

The design of Marantz SR5012 vs Marantz SR6012’s look doesn’t differ. Both are gorgeous with great aesthetics and not bulky. However, Marantz SR6012 is heavier than Marantz SR5012 – 28 pounds versus 22.1 pound respectively. On the other hand, one of the eighth SR5012’s HDMI-portholes is on the front panel while all SR6012’s ones are on the back panel, that is more convenient.
