Marantz SR6012

To start this Marantz SR6012 review the manufacturer’s uniqueness should be mentioned. Its AVs are separate from the others in the electronic niche. They are always among the consumers’ potential purchases. SR6012 is not the exception. It is the 9.2-channel amp with the tons of inputs, impeccable performance, Alexa integration, HEOS, and other punches. It is the high-quality device – on of the Marantz’s full-sized AVs lineup that delivers 110W per channel into 8 Ohms. The minor 0.08% of its total harmonic distortion provides the accurate sound on any volume level.

Design

The brand chassis with the elegant aluminum façade is pleasing to the eye, as well as the porthole display on the front panel. However, it could be larger to make the information on it more readable. However, it not a problem since everything is on the screen on the TV. The back panel is friendly organized to hook up easily either spades, plugs or wires.

Characteristics

  • The HEOS Multi Room audio tech and the opportunity to work with Alexa via. Note that it is necessary to download the compatible app and set up the account.
  • The lack of Auro 3D support for deeper sound is not a great flaw for the home theatre systems where Dolby Atmos support is more than enough.
  • Audyssey Platinum includes several techs for the room correction – MultEQ XT32, Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume, Low Frequency Containment, Dynamic Surround Expansion, and Sub EQ HT. This completely full auto calibration.
  • 4K upscaling for watching any content in high resolution.
  • The speakers’ calibration via the microphone and the cupboard stand.
  • The built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi that work smoothly and they are easy to set up.

Performance

The device demonstrates the highest quality of streaming Spotify, Tidal, and other services. However, it runs hot, not for the short period though.

One of the Marantz SR6012 specs is the selected discrete components and the hyper dynamical modules that provide the high-quality sound. There is also the special algorithm to increase sound in compressed file format MDAX2.

The heaters are made of extruded aluminum with the optimal thermal conductivity and the minimal power consumption.

Sound Quality

The separation of sound in the surrounding environment is clear. No overpower is noted, the amp is able to balance the sound after all the appropriate configurations are made. The movie sound is very natural, its power and depth comply with the scenes, whether it is the dialogue or the battle. The AV streams really “acoustic” sound that changes its tones according to whether you listen to rock, jazz, or classical music. There is no need to turn the volume up and down anymore in order to choose the harmonic sound level.

Connectivity

It drives the 4 Ohms speakers with no problems, as well as 6 Ohms ones. It is possible to add a couple more ceiling speakers to increase the soundstage. Nevertheless, the lack of power to drive Definitive tech speakers 9080x manifests itself. The whole process of speaker calibration takes about 20 minutes.

Setup

Setup is incredibly easy; it takes some time to make everything ready though. Just use the “Setup Assistant’” and follow the instructions on the display. Note that there are no customizes Equalization adjustments in this device. The ground for the turntable for those who still have some vinyl is a good news.

Conclusion

The Marantz SR6012’s sound is far superior to the expectations and the streaming is with no issues. Great power and the Atmos decoder are superb and allows hearing the slightest sounds, so now it is possible to hear more details that have been missed earlier. The device is great for 4K movies and gives the immersive power even with 2-channel music.
