Asked to compare two True 4K projectors with HDR, I’ve found that the main difference of Optoma UHD60 vs UHD50 was in brightness, setup, and certainly the price. If you’re looking for a quality 4K projector for a small room, the short-throw and more compact UHD50 model will provide that without dumping your wallet. If you aim for the utmost contrast and profoundly deep shades and don’t want to think about dimming your room every time you need to watch something, the heavier UHD60 projector might be your perfect fit.
The comparison of UHD50 vs UHD60 4K projectors shows the latter has more lumens — 3,000, while the UHD50 output makes only 2,400 lumens. This isn’t relevant in a dark room, as both projectors provide accurate (full Rec.709 compliance and 80% of DCI-P3) and saturated colors and spot-on whites, but in a semi-lit room, the performance of the UHD50 looks weaker than that of its senior model. The UHD60 also has two times the contrast of the UHD50, with the Dynamic Black mode on. Still, the difference is unnoticeable in the colorful images.
The UHD50 has a shorter throw (starts from 3.4ft) and 1.3x zoom. The UHD60 has a larger zoom (1.6x) but longer projection distance (starts from 4.2ft). Both models have noticeable input lag (about 60ms). While the minimal noise level makes 28 dB for both models, the UHD50 quickly becomes louder in the routine operation. The speakers in both devices are stereo type, but the UHD50 has a slightly more powerful output (5W per speaker versus 4W per speaker of the UHD60).
The primary difference spotted in the Optoma UHD50 vs UHD60 design is the size and weight of the projectors. They’re both on a heavy side (12 lbs for the UHD50 and 16 lbs for the UHD60), and the UHD60 model is much larger (it’s 19.6-inch wide against 15.4 inches of UHD50, an inch and a half deeper and almost an inch taller).
The UHD60 model has four feet, and the UHD50 — three. All the feet are adjustable. The navigation pad is located on the top panel of the UHD50, as well as the zoom dial and lens vertical switch. The UHD60 has the navigation buttons on the side while the zoom and lens shift control are hidden beneath the top cover.
By the overall build quality, in the competition of UHD60 vs UHD50, the latter wins not only thanks to the less size and weight and better access but also for the sturdiness of parts and joints.
