Features & Performance

I don’t like the sound quality of Yamaha RX-V685BL. Of course, it works quite normal and you can watch movies or listen to music without any problems. However, if you use low-quality files or listen to music via Bluetooth, you can notice background noises. I am sure that it’s a big disadvantage. On the other hand, both of them are able to produce a great 4K picture and 3D regime. In addition, I noticed that Pioneer is getting very hot if you use it for a very long time, that’s why I can recommend you to keep in mind this fact before buying. I also cannot realize that the developers didn’t add dual-zone capability. It’s one of the best features of modern receivers right now.

Connections & Setup

I have to mention that both of these receivers are able to support the Internet connection via Wi-Fi and also Bluetooth. However, it could be really difficult to do in practice if you use the receiver, which was created by Yamaha because it’s not compatible with the newest Wi-Fi routers. There are also specially created smartphone applications, which you can use as a remote controller. They are well-optimized and compatible with iOS and Android smartphones/tablets.

Design

I think that one of the most important benefits of these receivers is the weight of these products. It’s only 21-23 pounds! However, the design is quite strange, but everything depends on your own preferences. Pioneer’s remote controller is not as comfortable as Yamaha’s, but the number of buttons is lower and it’s easy to use it.

Pioneer VSX-933 Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • The developers added the ASR technology, which increases the sound quality if you use low-quality files.

Cons:

  • The regulators on the front panel look very cheap.

Yamaha RX-V685BL Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • The number of connectors is really impressive and all of them work without problems.

Cons:

  • The sentence “it works with Alexa” is overestimated. You have very limited control of the Musiccast speakers.
