Marantz SR5013 vs Denon AVRX2500: make the purchase wisely

Marantz SR5013 vs Denon AVRX2500

The Marantz SR5013 vs Denon AVRX2500 comparison brought to me some surprises. The first device had high operational power consumption rate – 650W, while the second one had – 500W. Moreover, the Marantz became a challenge for my shelves due to the high weight.

Features & Performance

First thing, which I mentioned after the Denon AVRX2500 vs Marantz SR5013 collation, was different numbers of preset FM/AM stations. The first model had 56 stations, while the second one – only 40. Furthermore, the Denon surprised me with a great signal and good sound quality. The Marantz also demonstrated its sound superiority, but when I tried to compare them, the AVRX2500 became a winner. Both devices have built-in HEOS wireless multi-room technology, but SR5013 had more improved version because during the whole testing period there were no problems with it. The AVRX2500 didn’t want to obey me and I had to reset the device.

Connections & Setup

Both receivers had 8 HDMI inputs, but in the Denon, 2 of them worked incorrectly. The signal was intermittent and I even changed the cable, but the reason was in the device. Marantz didn’t have such issues. The microphone calibration was perfect in both products. The setting process was much easier in SR5013 because each step was presented thoroughly. The AVRX2500 had more superficial on-screen guide, moreover, the process was interrupted by the device’s unexpected shutting down.

Design

These two units have different design decisions. The Denon looked more profitable for me. It had a relatively big rectangular display with bright white inscriptions. Marantz had round display with small figures, which weren’t visible on a sunny day. Moreover, the buttons on the SR5013 were placed under the basic control element, whereas on AVRX2500 – above them. I also mentioned the different legs height. The Denon had higher legs and it was hard for me to find the right place for its placement.
