In my Marantz NR1608 vs SR5012 review, I would make a comparison of the receivers by Marantz which differ in size and performance, as well as a set of ports.
Performance of these receivers is different. First of all, it is a power of the amplifier. Marantz SR5012 has power 100 W/channel and Marantz NR1608 has power 50 W/channel. Both receivers can work in 7.2 channel mode and support video in resolution 4K/60 Hz. Video playback on these devices is possible with support 4:4:4 color resolution, HDR, BT.2020, and Dolby Vision.
Marantz SR 5012 has connectivity ability wider than the Marantz NR1608 due to the extended set of component inputs and the analog outputs for the subwoofer and for the 7.1 system. For the rest, both receivers have similar set of connectors. This is eight HDMI, a complete set of a terminal for speakers, Ethernet, analog video, and audio connectors.
Also, both receivers are equipped with Bluetooth-module, AirPlay function and have dual-band Wi-Fi. And with built-in HEOS technology receivers can be part of a complete wireless multiroom music system. Just add additional HEOS speakers and connect using the HEOS app.
In terms of design, these receivers are opposite. Marantz NR1608 has slim and compact design if compare it with Marantz SR5012 which seems huge and heavy. On the front panel, NR1608 has a wide rectangular display on which everything is readable versus the round display on the NR5012 where only basic information is displayed.
A common feature of these two receivers is a slightly rounded front panel in the typical Marantz style which the front HDMI input and USB port, inputs for the microphone and headphones, add detail.
