Yamaha RX-V485 vs Denon AVRX1400H back

Yamaha has an amazing Acoustic Optimizer, which analyzes the room acoustics and your system, then precisely adjusts various audio parameters to provide the best sound for your room. In comparison to Denon, it has better calibration settings. At the same time, the Denon AVR-X1400H is an excellent choice for a surround entertainment system controllable with your smartphone and access with Heos.

Connections & Setup

The SCENE button of Yamaha RX-V485 can power on the AV receiver and select the input source and DSP mode. There is the opportunity to reset the buttons for different sources by selecting a source and DSP mode. I would like to mention, that Denon’s Alexa integration isn't perfect. It is hard to tell Alexa to play a song in a certain zone. I've been unable to get it to switch inputs via Alexa. So, Yamaha versus Denon can be connected in the easier way to another electronics.

Design

Yamaha AV receivers feature fully discrete power amplifiers to minimize distortion. This AV receiver is designed with full emphasis on the highest possible sound quality. The interface and design of Denon AVRX14000 are solid and retro-styled. To compare it to the Yamaha. It is important to notice that black mid-line buttons on the front panel are hard to read, so you’d better study them closer.

Yamaha RX-V485 pros & cons

Pros:

  • Great transmission of 4K video at 60 frames/second pass-through with support HDR video.
  • I really appreciate the MusicCast App for operating the speaker, changing settings, and controlling music playback.

Cons:

  • Sometimes difficult wireless setup.
  • MusicCast can turn off occasionally.

Denon AVRX1400H pros & cons

Pros:

  • Sound quality is fantastic from all sources.
  • The manual BTW is extremely well written.
  • Set up via the on-screen menus was pretty straightforward including the speaker calibration.

Cons:

  • The ARC function is not very good for surround sound.
  • Clunky HEOS app & onscreen presentation.
