Harman Kardon AVR 1710 vs Harman Kardon AVR 1710S

Having had an opportunity to test Harman Kardon AVR 1710S vs Harman Kardon AVR 1710, I’d like to share my impression here to facilitate your choice of a new receiver. We have two very similar devices – with a seven-channel analog gain path on discrete elements, having almost the same power.

Features & Performance

Harman Kardon AVR 1710 vs Harman Kardon AVR 1710S back

7.2-channel AV receivers, combining power and variety of possibilities. If we compare Harman Kardon AVR 1710 vs 1710S power output – it is the same. Given the output power of the receivers, which is 700 watts, even with quite demanding acoustics, it should not have any problems. The devices have the same power per channel, it is 100 watts. Movie playback performance is great, it really makes you feel like a cinema, and the games bring a new perspective with this equipment.

Connections & Setup

Both receivers support video skipping in 4K / 60p / 4: 4: 4 format at 24 bits and HDCP 2.2 technology on 6 HDMI input ports, ensuring compatibility with multiple Ultra HD devices, including the latest TVs. These two receivers support popular Hi-Res audio formats transmitted over a local network or USB. The EzSet / EQ III automatic calibration system adjusts receiver parameters to suit your room and speaker system.

Design

The first thing I would like to note is the stylish design of the AV receiver. The laconism of the front panel means that certain necessary control functions are available only from the console. The large volume control knob is traditionally hollow and is highlighted in blue when the power is turned on. The design of these receivers are very similar, they remained fairly traditional and recognizable. Still, it is worth seeing the real devices – and not just seeing, but putting them side by side – Harman Kardon AVR 1710S versus 1710 is slightly larger.
