Marantz, a company that usually produces audio equipment for professional and home use from “above average” class to Hi-End audio technique, has released another one vinyl player for true audiophiles in a quite high price category – the TT-15S1.
The appearance of the Marantz TT-15S1 can be characterized by accuracy and the completeness of the lines. The Marantz TT-15S1 review is a good way to find out that this model is equipped with a solid MM cartridge Clearaudio Virtuoso.
A rather powerful chassis made of GS-acrylic rests on three massive conical aluminum cylinders, which are adjustable vertically. The acrylic support disk is mounted on a shaft with a ceramic bearing, which contributes to silent and free rotation. An anti-static felt mat is laid on top of the sanded surface of the disc. Also the kit includes some round plastic device – the famous Clever Clamp.
On the engine cover there are a power button and input for connecting the power cable.
The TT-15S1 doesn’t come “plug and play” ready, like most automatic turntables do. However, the Marantz provides it with all the necessary things to assemble this device by yourself. The kit also includes the oil you need for lubrication and some installation tools. The TT-15S1 also includes a well written set of instructions with pictures to help you in this process. The only thing that requires patience is to tweak the turntable to make sure you’ve really dialed in the geometry.
Switching between 33.3 or 45 rpm is carried out manually by transferring the belt to the corresponding unit. Optionally, the standard is available at 78 rpm, but for this you will need to get a separate additional pulley.
Clearaudio Satisfy's straight tonearm is made of anodized aluminum, has a wide range of adjustments and equipped with a magnetic anti-skating system.
Internal wiring is of the highest quality, made of oxygen-free copper. There is also a built-in high-quality interconnect cable and ground wire.
The Marantz TT-15S1 specs are advanced in all the aspects. The player is easy to use and has a crystal clear, delicate, open, detailed, three-dimensional , precise, although sometimes bright sound.
The turntable has a good potential for upgrade. In particular, if you replace a standard pickup head with a precision MC cartridge, you can achieve even more impressive results. However, even as standard, this unit has remarkable and impressive features.
The TT-15S1 is a new-style vinyl record player, and I think, it’s worth the money.
