Features & Performance

The comparison of Rega Planar 1 vs Audio-Technica AT-LP120 features has to start from the output level. AT-LP120 has Pre-amp "PHONO": 2.5 mV nominal at 1 kHz, 5 cm/sec. Pre-amp "LINE": 150 mV nominal at 1 kHz, 5 cm/sec while Rega Planar 1 has 2.5 mV nominal at 1 kHz.

Two manufacturers Rega Planar and Audio-Technica gave the next cartridge types to their products: moving magnet (MM) and dual magnet respectively.

Talking about playback speeds, here we have AT-LP120 with 33.3, 45, 78 RPM and his opponent with just 33.3, 45 RPM.

Design & build quality

The Audio-Technica AT-LP120 player has a high-quality tonearm with a holder for the Audio-Technica AT-HS10 pickup. The high-performance head has a Dual Magnet design. For ease of use, the tonearm player is equipped with a micro-lift. The player has height-adjustable feet and a dust cover.

Thanks to the integral and continuous supply, albeit a little softened, I want to listen to the system for hours, not exchanging for analysis of each of the frequency ranges. Of course, the audiophile's picky ear will find flaws in the sound of the Audio-Technica AT-LP120. However, such claims should be considered in the context of the price that the buyer pays for the turntable.

The turntable Rega Planar 1 has become even more convenient to use since it requires minimal settings and is ready to play almost immediately after unpacking. The model received a new RB110 manual assembly tonearm with a straight tube, a rigid integrated shell, a built-in holder and an automatic anti-skating system. The tonearm is equipped with high-precision custom bearings with zero axial play and a low coefficient of friction, as well as a pre-installed Rega Carbon MM cartridge.

The model is equipped with a 24-volt synchronous electric motor, which provides low noise and vibration. The engine has a casing with passive cooling and an aluminum pulley, which guarantees a more stable disk rotation speed. Switching speeds (33.3 or 45 rpm) are manual.
