Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 vs SVS SB-1000 – Compact and Powerful

Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 vs SVS SB-1000

Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 vs SVS SB-1000 is the comparison of two mid-range subs for average customers. Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 can boast a great Low-Frequency Effect. At the same time, SVS SB-1000 is packed with LFE as well but it is not able to handle it with a good intensity.

Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 could be hardly matched with other brands’ subs inside one acoustic system because the difference in tones is always felt even after calibration. On the other hand, SVS SB-1000 matches any bookshelf type speaker.

Features & Performance

The SVS SB-1000 vs Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 test demonstrated the advantages of ProSub 1000’s branded radiator tech to avoid booming and to be exactly 300 W of RMS. It produces a decent sound when you play video games or watch movies. However, it has some problems with bass at high volumes, that’s why it can hardly meet the audiophile’s needs. SVS SB-1000 permits to reach 70 Hz with the volume about 50% even with the speakers rated down to 50 Hz.

Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 has a line level inputs in the sub for the receiver without LFE. This sub together with the compatible speakers gives a very loud sound even in a non-standard room. Besides, its bass is very clear without distortions.

Both units take a short time to get all the elements wired and make all the adjustments. Either ProSub 1000 or SVS SB-1000 fit medium rooms but not large ones because of their output power of 750 W and 720 W respectively.

Design

When I decided to compare their cabinets, I’ve noted that SVS SB-1000’s elegant design makes it almost invisible in the room versus too ordinary ProSub 1000’s form-factor.

Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 with a built-in amp has a volume control on the side panel to adjust the bass level quickly according to the type of content. A power on/off button and a variable crossover selector are on the back. The device is small enough to fit any designs of interiors. SVS SB-1000 is also very compact it has a built-in amp too.
