Very solid sub, able to produce vast low-end extension down to 18 or 19 Hz but this is more pressure waves that are undetectable to all but neighbors and tooth fillings. Tail off in volume happens in the low 25 Hz range but few, if any, sources demand prolonged low-end response. Despite the Pro Sub 1000 specs my only knock of this sub is the auto-on feature which lags in low signal response them turns on suddenly when a signal of significant wattage comes into the sub and your face gets ripped off. Tight, precise, and will provide that sonic vibration associated with theater experience.
The sub-woofer itself has a volume control on the side so you can adjust how much bass you want to get for the given media you are watching or listening to. It seems different music, movies, and games all have their soundtracks adjusted differently. Some are low with very little bass, some have a ton of bass that overpowers the other sounds. This separate volume control on the side of the sub allows you to quickly set the woofer to produce the volume level appropriate to whatever film or music you can listen to without having to go adjusting things in the receiver menu. The amplifier in the subwoofer has output stages on discrete MOSFET transistors, is made using the patented technology Infinite Power Source, and develops up to 300 watts. The amplifier circuit is mounted on printed circuit boards of “military” quality, using precision resistors and capacitors. Pro Sub 1000 uses a double protection system to prevent damage to it in the event of any abnormal situations.
There are two ways to adjust the ProSub 1000 setup sub with speakers. Running speakers through sub and sub back to receiver gives sub full bass but the speakers loss some of the detail and delicate notes. Not harsh sounding but running speakers directly to the receiver and sub on LFE seems to sound better and set the crossover at receiver. Speaking of Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 settings I think this is a great sounding and versatile sub. Can you find better subs? Yes, but they also cost more. Also, a sealed sub is great for music, not movies and a lot of ported subs are good for movies and get lost with music. For the money, being able to use with movies/music and easy placement and blending of speakers I highly recommend the product. To eliminate the danger of coloring the sound at a high listening volume, the sub body has an almost monolithic construction, with a very tight connection of the panels using a special polymer adhesive. The front and rear walls have an increased thickness, and the Pro Sub 1000 case is also reinforced with numerous internal ties.
