Yamaha RX-V385BL review & specs

Let’s meet Yamaha RX-V385BL — one of the most popular receivers

Yamaha RX-V385BL

Yamaha RX-V385BL was really an interesting receiver for testing. Why? Because such a powerful media-monster was very promising, so I checked its functions and all the features with the utmost care. Very impressive Yamaha RX-V385BL specs appeared to be the real. I’m sure that demanding audiophiles will find in this small but the very powerful device everything they need.

Design

The design of a device is really gorgeous, top part has a glossy surface, while the bottom part is performed in a matting way. Such a combination looks amazing but among the visual perfection, I paid attention to the extreme heating of the box. This could start a fire and such a moment made me nervous.

Characteristics

The first thing that I’ve checked was a compatibility with a projector. Everything worked without problems and the picture was really impressive. The Bluetooth performed its task and cooperate with different devices. The signal was strong and it was easy to control the Yamaha RX-V385BL with the help of the smartphone. The 4K and 3D video pass-through can be regarded as serious features, which improve the level of enjoying the unit. The built-in clock and sleep timer transferred into real helpers. While testing they never failed.

Performance

However, I have found that my remote control was defective. Yamaha is famous for its responsible attitude to the users, so such a failure upsets me.

The device can propose a great sound in a room which is about 46 x 62 feet. I am a radio lover, so I was a little bit disappointed when saw that the system couldn’t propose the Internet radio to me. At the same time, the Yamaha RX-V385BL has 40 preset FM/AM stations, which fully satisfied the requirements. Virtual Cinema Front became a discovery for me. It simulated surround sound effects when 5 connected speakers were placed in the front part of the room.

Sound Quality

My TV had an awful sound. I didn’t hear all the words and sound shades, so a receiver had to become a savior for my multimedia entertainment. That’s how it happened. Now the voices are loud and the sound effects don’t dominate the voices of characters. It seemed to me that even the nature sound became distinctive. I’m talking about the possibility to distinguish the birdsongs and babbling brook in films. Unbeatable sound fascinated me because the bass is deep and heavy rock music really demonstrates its sound power. Firstly, I was disappointed with the Dolby Atmos absence, but other sound features made me forget about it quickly.

Connectivity

All the inputs and outputs demonstrated a great level. The possibility to play tracks directly from the USB Flash Drive is amazing; moreover, the device can read a lot of music formats. There are 5 HDMI audio/video switchers (4 inputs and 1 output). The presence of digital audio inputs (1 optical and 2 coaxial), became a wonderful surprise for me. All of them are made on a high-level, easy connected, and reliably attached to the slots.

Setup

It was amazing! I had it plugged in and set up in full 4K HDR with my XBOX One X has finished in a few minutes. The sound calibration also was easy, I even didn’t need to interfere and make any manual operations. The information, displayed on the screen during the setting process, explained to me all the controversial points (I chose a few wrong options) and showed how to do it right.

Conclusion

After Yamaha RX-V385BL review, I was sure, that this device will become a vital part of the house entertainment system. It has all needed components to demonstrate the brand Yamaha on the positive side with the help of such peculiarities, as amazing design, compatibility with the projector, built-in clock, sleep timer, and others. At the same time, Yamaha is not a perfect unit so a defective remote control, an extreme heating of the box and absence of the Internet radio became unexpected and not very affirmative surprises.
