Marantz has presented their TT42P turntable – the upgraded version of the TT42 with a pre-installed cartridge and built-in phono pre-amp.
The TT42P combines the modern and classic vinyl styles: a black vintage finish matched with gilded stands.
The Marantz TT42P review helps you to find out that the cabinet of the player is made of solid MDF and installed on the surface with rubber unregulated legs. The turntable is belt-driven. The disk is very light, made of aluminum, with a thick felt mat on top, mounted on a light plastic subdisk. The removable cover is made from a thin plastic and established on the plastic loops.
The the turntable goes with a standard dimensions: 14.2 x 16.5 x 4.7 inches in size, and the weight is 11,2 lbs.
Marantz provides detailed instructions that are designed for beginners: the player can be set up for a few minutes. I just pulled the player out of the box, removed the transport locks (read the instructions before you install the platter), put the whole thing together, and that’s it. All the necessary things to assemble this device by yourself are in the kit.
The player is fully automatic, but since there is no possibility to choose the size of the plate, the lifter can be used separately from all other automatics. The TT42 also provides convenient, fully automatic operation including return and shutdown.
The installed head is Dual DMS 251S, MM-type, with working clamping force of 2.0 g. Rotational speeds (33.3 and 45 rpm) are switched using the knob on the case. There is no built-in phono stage, but the signal cable is built-in, and the power supply is external. The DC servo motor is completely silent. A floating chassis eliminates vibration that affects the pickup, thus making the sound more detailed and widely dynamic.
The tonearm is made of aluminum by the injection molding method. The player also has such features as automatic lifting of the tonearm and stopping at the end of the recording. The built-in phono preamplifier allows the player to connect to modern HI-FI systems without a special input.
The tag lift lever also allows you to manually raise the tone arm and accurately place it on any track without the risk of scratching the recordings.
The TT42P is a quality player at an average price, with convenient and fully automatic playback, although, without the ability to update the cartridge. This is an entry-level player, with solid base and reasonable price. The Marantz TT42P specs allow the player to work without unnecessary side noises.
