With a 65-inch screen, the 65S405 (2017) is the biggest model from TCL’s budget S405 series. The TVs from the series feature 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR technology, and many others. They are available in four screen sizes (from 43 to 65 inches).
I would like to start this TCL 65S405 review by noting that except for being able to offer a true 4K picture resolution, this TV with an LCD panel also can upscale non-4K content to near-4K quality thanks to 4K Creative Pro upscaling engine. Rather than the basic 60Hz, the TV features a 120Hz refresh rate and has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160. The direct-lit LED light also contributes to improved picture quality. Thanks to HDR10, the picture is clearer and you can see more details.
The other TCL 65S405 specs include the Roku TV platform that has a convenient and simple interface and offers thousands of TV shows and movies on streaming channels.
While the traditional remote control features 40 buttons or more, the 65S405 remote is very simple and has only 20 buttons to ensure easy navigation. The TV also works with Alexa and Google Assistant.
The 65S405 review is a good way to find out that the remote control and smart speakers are not the only two ways to control the TV. TCL also provides the ability to carry out the TV’s control by using your smartphone via the Roku TV app. You can search for content by voice or use the keyboard. It also allows watching videos/music/photos from your phone on the TV and casting movies and videos to the TV with Netflix and YouTube apps.
The TCL 65S405 has a sleek and modern design. It stands on a wide silver-colored plastic V-shaped stand which requires a lot of free space but supports the TV quite reliably. The body has a metallic top and plastic bottom. The borders around the screen are 0.39-inch thick. When viewed from the side, the TV has an average thickness. However, due to the bundle in its bottom part, it will stick out a bit when mounted on the wall. The TV’s dimensions are 57.8 x 33.3 x 3.1 inches.
The TCL 65S405 65-inch TV has four HDMI inputs, USB port, composite video input, optical digital audio output, and 3.5mm audio jack for headphones. For Internet connection, the TV can offer dual-band Wi-Fi and Ethernet port.
In terms of sound, this TV has a pair of 8W stereo speakers which provide a generally poor audio quality with little bass.
