Onkyo company produces one of the best receivers in the market, that’s why it would be really strange to ignore their products. Fortunately, I got a possibility to use their A/V receiver – Onkyo TX-RZ730. My impression is quite controversial because this device is compatible with other gadgets, but I really worry about the quality of materials and reliability. So, if you want to figure out whether it’s a good receiver, you should read this Onkyo TX-RZ730 review as soon as possible!
Well, I should probably admit that I’m not really satisfied because this receiver looks weird: there are a lot of buttons, regulators, and other elements on the front panel. I really keen on a minimalistic design, but you can make your own decision whether it looks great or not. However, I can declare without any hesitation an objective fact that these buttons are solid enough, but it sounds really weird when you push them. This cheap plastic irritates me. Fortunately, this receiver has many ports, that’s why you will not have any problems with compatibility with other devices.
I’m always really glad to figure out that the developers decided to add the dual-zone capability. It’s a great opportunity to get as many perks from buying this device as possible. Two people in two different rooms can use Onkyo TX-RZ730 without problems at all! I would like to mention that there is a special application, which helps you change the receiver’s settings via your mobile phone. Well, to be precise, there are two apps. Seriously, I don’t understand the reason to do it but this company thinks that it’s better to create two different applications. I don’t want to disappoint these people but I have to: it’s not comfortable. I don’t want to load one app, which works like the controller and the second one, which helps stream music. Please, create one app, which can solve two problems simultaneously because it’s weird.
Fortunately, Onkyo TX-RZ730 is able to produce 4K picture quality and even 3D movies. I was also impressed because this receiver is able to play DSD files via USB, as well as via HDMI. However, it can only store one set of AccuEQ measurements, so you can't set it up for multiple listening locations. On the other hand, I would also mention that I didn’t notice the overheating even despite the fact that it was working for 6 hours. Of course, it’s warm but it’s not hot at all.
It’s probably one of the most important features of a high-quality receiver: the sound quality is really great. I was happy to listen to music and watch videos via this device because there are no distractive noises. In addition, this gadget maintains almost all audio formats. However, I strongly don’t recommend you to use low-quality files via this receiver because the ASR technology wasn’t implemented.
This receiver is compatible with Google Assistant. At first glance, it’s really great because I think that more functions equal to more great possibilities but I would like to get Alexa compatibility instead of this feature. There were no problems to connect to my Wi-Fi, but Bluetooth connectivity took several minutes because the session was interrupted several times. In addition, it’s compatible with Apple AirPlay support.
In general, it’s not difficult to set up this receiver. There is also an advice, which you should follow in order to avoid problems if you use Sony Blu-ray player: Turn off Deep Color in the menu system before you are going to connect the HDMI output to this unit. Otherwise, you won't be able to watch the video.
Now, when we have already considered the main Onkyo TX-RZ730 specs, I can render my verdict: it’s a great and relatively cheap receiver, which produces pure sound and smooth picture quality, but its smartphone app and the quality of materials is going to make me mad. Consider all the pros and cons again, compare this model with other competitors and make your final decision about this A/V receiver!
