Pioneer SC-LX502 review & specs

Pioneer SC-LX502 is a multifunctional multimedia receiver

Pioneer SC-LX502

Each Pioneer product arouses the interest and receiver SC-LX502 didn’t become an exception. The high output power per channel (180W) was enough for my room (17 x 15 sq). I was sure that the receiver could become a great choice for medium-sized or big room owners. The device has presented itself on the plus side and didn’t have serious issues with functionality.

Design

I was definitely in love with the receiver design. The whole box was made of the special reliable material and the visual side allowed me to get a true aesthetic enjoyment. The glossy and matte parts combination was added with the laconic front side. There were no spare controllers. 2 big buttons for input selection and volume control were perceived not only as useful elements but also as appropriate decorations. The Standby/on knob has a pleasant to the eye blue illumination. The remote control was made on the same level. Unusual triangle buttons were comfortable in usage and the whole remote perfectly fitted my hand. A great number of ventilation holes allowed the Pioneer SC-LX502 not to overheat.

Characteristics

After a quick Pioneer SC-LX502 review and instruction checking, I decided to test Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, and Pandora in real conditions. These built-in streaming services didn’t bring me problems, but the Tidal wasn’t able to launch after the first attempt. The firmware updating fixed this issue. Due to Google Chromecast technology, I discovered a lot of interesting and adorable tracks. The service as itself performed its main task perfectly well. Considering that SC-LX502 interacts with Google Assistant, the voice control functionality was supposed to be on a high-level. Unfortunately, I confronted with periodical disobedience of the system. Some operations were performed, and others (pronounced with a little bit quieter voice) were ignored. Internet radio became a pleasant suddenness for me. Moreover, the device has 40 preset FM/AM stations.

Performance

Among wonderful Pioneer SC-LX502 specs, I have found out that a special DTS Play-Fi technology that allowed dispersing a sound throughout the whole house. The Pioneer SC-LX502 doesn’t have a three-zone capability, but that is not a problem because DTS Play-Fi became a perfect substitution. I’ve heard about a new FireConnect technology and checked its benefits with the device’s help. It seemed to me that music followed hot on the heels and I almost felt the physical presence of the sound.

Sound Quality

After some manual adjusting, I really enjoyed the bass kicking, the pure sound, and different modes accessibility. It was very strange when while a movie watching the sound abruptly disappeared. Furthermore, the action on the screen continued and I was sitting in front of the screen in a shock. Such troubles appeared a few times during the testing period. I had to reset the device to bring back the sound and the necessity of such operations was really annoying.

Connectivity

The back panel has all the needed connectors. 7 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs were extremely helpful. The ARC technology also supported my LG TV applications and I didn’t have to use optical cables. The AVR automatically detected and connected to all the powered systems. 3 AV inputs worked without claims because with their help I have received the analog video signal from my computer, camera, smartphone, and DVD for a few times.

Setup

The on-screen guidance presented each step very understandable. The MCACC technology really was very useful and did everything as it has to. I only performed some slight adjustments in my overhead ceiling speakers (turn up). After ensuring that balance was where I needed it, I have started to reveal the device’s potential.

Conclusion

Many manufacturers are trying to release impressive receivers, but Pioneer keeps tempting me with multifunctional devices, and SC-LX502 is regarded as one of the best product over the past few years. It presented to me a lot of multimedia services, 40 preset FM/AM stations, and other peculiarities. The voice control wasn’t on a high level and there were problems with the sound. Despite everything, I’m sure, that such a unit will be a perfect choice for everyone, who wants to have simple receiver with all the most important functions.
