I had an opportunity to take for review a stereo receiver for real connoisseurs of two-channel sound. The Yamaha R-S202BL is a classic stereo receiver with a conventional tuner, capable of handling radio signals in the AM and FM bands. R-S201 is the embodiment of Yamaha's experience and creative ideas. In my Yamaha R-S202BL review, I will try to highlight all the main features of the model.
The case of the Yamaha R-S202BL is made of metal. The cover of the receiver has a perforation for air circulation in the housing. The front panel is simple and strict. It is made of plastic. To the right of the information display, there is a huge handle of the volume control. The fluorescent display occupied the center of the front panel. The screen is well read from a distance. On the left side, next to the power button, there are the headphone jack and the speaker switching keys. Under the display, there are small buttons that control the secondary functions and under them, the big keys of the tone controls and the input selector are located.
On the rear panel, you can find analog inputs for the CD player and two more pairs of universal ones. There are a set of inputs and outputs intended, for example, for a cassette recorder, a tape recorder or another recorder. Two pairs of spring terminals for acoustics allow the receiver to be used together with acoustics in set A or B, A B. To these terminals, it is eventual to connect a cross-section cable up to 2 mm.
As the styling minuses can be noted that Yamaha R-S202BL has a non-detachable power cable (in case of a breakdown it is impossible to replace it independently).
The package may surprise you. In the kit, there is the remote control. The controller is made of plastic. It has a pretty simple design, there is a lot of little buttons on it, but the remote has no backlighting. In most cases, to control the receiver you will use the remote controller — it is handier. And also the manufacturer provided a separate AM/FM antenna in the kit. The radio in Yamaha R-S202BL allows you to configure and save up to 40 radio stations.
In the software part, the receiver also has several useful functions. The Yamaha R-S202BL has ECO Mode. This feature set the standby mode to decline consumption of an electricity to 0.5W automatically. One more useful feature of firmware is the option of the turning on and off each channel.
Yamaha R-S202BL specs are very good in the price range; the balance of price-quality is preserved. The receiver is equipped with an amplifier and works in two-channel mode on 100W output power per channel. Yamaha R-S202BL has a good frequency range 10—100 000 Hz ( /- 3 dB) The discrete output stages of the receiver are made on complementary pairs of Sanken transistors and operate in the A / B class. The power transformer was positioned near the amp circuit for peak power supply. The signal ground and power supply ground connect at one point, achieving a higher S/N ratio. For their cooling, a finned radiator is used, which occupies a central position inside the receiver housing. A power supply provides a large and heavy transformer company Bando.
The Yamaha R-S202BL offers a great interpretation of the musical composition with an easy accent on the medium part of the sound range. The mid-range is saturated but without undue emphasis or exaggerated detail. The music scene is not bad echeloned - solo parts of instruments and vocals are brought to the fore. Both male and female voices are transmitted quite naturally, with a careful operation of the smallest overtones. The R-S202BL does not hit the ultra-wide frequency range but reproduces detailed naturalistic soundscapes. There is a small resolution loss in the top area of the operating range. The low-frequency spectrum to the necessary power gives the sound picture solidity - the bass in the performance of this device but elastic and fast. All that is related to rock, electronics, blues or alternative music, is reproduced luminously.
The connection possibilities for the Yamaha R-S202BL are not very wide. The receiver does not have an Ethernet port or a Wi-Fi adapter on board, so it will not be possible to combine it with the home network. However, I should notice that the user will not be constrained in the choice of the music source — analog outputs are compatible with almost all players. However, Yamaha R-S202BL is equipped with a Bluetooth adapter, capable of accepting without wires a digital flow from mobile gadgets. A power of Bluetooth signal is not enough to cover all home.
Setup receiver R-S202 took just a few minutes. It consisted of connecting acoustics via the cord to the terminals and plug it on. The connection of the smartphone that I used, via Bluetooth, is not difficult. The transfer via Bluetooth is simple and convenient for modern everyday listening.
Ease of use and the availability of Bluetooth make the Yamaha R-S202BL an excellent choice for building a budget Hi-Fi system. Yamaha R-S202BL is the receiver for beginners in the audio world or for those who appreciate two-channel sound and simplicity. The first impression of the receiver is that it is absolutely «omnivorous»: the R-S202BL works well in the entire frequency range and with any audio encoding formats.
