Design

The device has a low case and compact dimensions (14.5 x 17.3 x 4.1 inches). It fits into the narrowest shelf and doesn’t get warm. Lots of ventilation holes allow the receiver to stay cool even in conditions of incredible heat. It has 9 basic buttons on the front side; the Volume Controller and Input Selector knobs are places on the sides.

Features

The firmware updating presents to me AirPlay 2 with the possibility of organizing a multi-room system based on iOS devices. It works perfect and performs all the tasks in seconds. The Marantz NR1609 review demonstrates that this unit can become a hub in the HEOS wireless ecosystem. Due to this feature, I enjoy the synchronization of playing the same music in different rooms and transferring specific tracks to separate groups of devices.

Performance

Most streaming services work well, but the voices on the Amazon Prime disappears from time to time. I’m glad to see that the Marantz NR1609 is able to scale each video up to 4K resolution. The Amazon Alexa has some problems with commands perception. It performs other task or doesn’t respond at all. The firmware updating became a solution to this problem.

Sound Quality

The Marantz NR1609 specs create the conditions, thanks to which I can truly enjoy the 3D sound via the support of DTS:X and Dolby Atmos formats in 5.1.2-channel configuration. I also checked the DTS Virtual:X format and found out that the device can create an imitation of the ceiling speaker’s sound of in conventional surround sound systems.

Connectivity

The device is supplemented by 4 AV inputs, 8 HDMI inputs, 1 optical, and 1 coaxial digital input. The 1 phono presents me an opportunity to listen to my old vinyl records. There is a problem with 2 HDMI inputs, because they work intermittently, and the reason is definitely in a plug.

Setup

I use the Audyssey MultEQ system for the speakers adjusting in accordance with the geometry and acoustic features of the room. The Dynamic Volume normalizes the volume, which is convenient when watching broadcasts with advertising. The auto-calibration is also present and thanks to it I can quickly finish the setting process and start testing the receiver.

Conclusion

The Marantz NR1609 contains most modern features; moreover, not every receiver can offer 8 HDMI inputs. Additional setting programs and performance features can become entertainment accents.
