The main advantages and disadvantages of Denon AVRX3400H

Denon AVRX3400H

Several days ago I tested one of the most popular receivers Denon AVRX3400H. I decided to create this Denon AVRX3400H review in order to consider the pros and cons because it could be difficult to choose whether you need this product or not. At the first glance, it seems to be a good receiver, which gives you a possibility to watch 4K videos at home. However, there are also a lot of serious pitfalls, which you should know. For example, the developers didn’t add the smartphone remote controller and even ASR technology. So, to discover all the important features and make your final decision, read this review right now!

Of course, it is really difficult to estimate the design because everything depends on your own preferences. However, there are several objective aspects, which are universal for everyone. For example, the size of this receiver is not very big (15.3 x 17.1 x 6.6 inches) and it weighs only 23.8 pounds, while the weight of its competitors could be even more than 30 pounds, that's why you will find the appropriate place without any problems. In addition, I have to admit that the quality of materials is great too. Everything works well and it is a real pleasure to use this receiver.

As for me, it is really difficult to impress customers because there are even smart lamps and rosettes in the market right now. However, the developers are not going to stop. For example, they added the Internet radio, Network audio player, and even Bluetooth connectivity function. I think it can make my user experience better. However, they didn’t add the special smartphone remote control function. Of course, it is not so important as a dual-zone capability, but it would be a great bonus. In addition, you can forget about A-B speaker switch and AIR Studios monitor certification even despite the fact that the price is affordable.

The operational power consumption is 600W and I don’t think that it is too much. Denon AVRX3400H is able to upscale via HDMI up to 4K and it also has 3D pass-through, that’s why you will get a great quality at home. This receiver also has 6 different built-in decoders, except Dolby surround, that’s why you can use different files and devices in order to listen to music or watch movies. Unfortunately, the three-zone capability is not available in this version and only two people can use it simultaneously. However, I still think that it is enough to have only two zones at home in order to forget about problems at all.

Sound Quality

I am a bit surprised because I expected to get a professional A/V receiver, which can maintain all audio formats, but the real situation differs. This receiver doesn’t maintain AIFF and Apple lossless. Of course, I am not sure that you really need it but it would be better to get the receiver, which is compatible with all audio formats. I strongly do not recommend you to use low-quality files because Denon AVRX3400H doesn’t maintain the ASR technology. As a result, I was forced to listen to music in the background of different additional noises. On the other hand, I also used the Blu-ray disks and the quality was pure and smooth. So, if you are going to use only high-quality files, this receiver will please your needs without problems.

At the first glance, it seems to be great. There are a lot of decoders, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and even network function. However, it is possible to figure some minor problems, which can disappoint you. For example, I have bought a great and new Wi-Fi router, which was created by Google, recently and I cannot connect this receiver to my Wi-Fi, unfortunately, that’s why you should keep in mind this fact if you are going to buy this receiver. Moreover, the developers also declare that their receiver is compatible with Amazon Alexa. It is probably my main disappointment. I didn’t find any guidance on Denon’s website or enclosed manuals on setting up Alexa. I had to find the video on YouTube in order to figure out how to combine these gadgets. So, it would be great to add any guidance, which can help customers to use their receiver with the help of Alexa.

As I have already mentioned it could be really difficult to set up this receiver with Alexa because you do not have any pieces of advice or instructions. On the other hand, it is not really difficult to set up this receiver. The interface is intuitive and it is not a big problem to find the appropriate ports. In addition, there is a special guidance, which can help you turn it on.

Should you buy this receiver right now?

Now, when I have already considered and tested the Denon AVRX3400H specs, I can render my verdict about this receiver. It is a good and relatively cheap receiver, which gives you a possibility to watch 4K movies and listen to music without limits at all. It has a dual-zone capability and even the network audio player. However, it works awfully with low-quality files, it is difficult to set it up and you can forget about the comfortable smartphone controller, which is extremely popular right now in the market.
