Denon AVRS940H: a great receiver, network audio, and digital player

Denon AVRS940H

A Denon AVRS940H has 7.1-channel surround system class that presents a high-quality sound. Moreover, such a device can fill with the sound 2 rooms. I can easily control it with the special app and make all the basic settings from the distance.

Design

The Denon AVRS940H has a classic design. The corps is very solid and can withstand a large workload because there are special ventilation holes. However, two things bother me: dimensions (12.9 x 17.1 x 6.6 inches) and the weight (20.7 pounds). I couldn’t find a place for its placing. Specially designed for this furniture appeared to be very small for the receiver.

Characteristics

The device has an Internet radio and such a feature allows getting to know new musical directions and interesting combinations of styles. It also proposes 56 FM/AM stations that work perfectly. Due to Pandora, Amazon Music, and Spotify, I can easily enjoy a variety of media entertainment services. Alexa also is available on the device, moreover, it has an amazing sensitivity and performs all the commands, quickly, correct, and without repeating.

Performance

The device has Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD that create an amazing sound and conditions for trouble-free movies watching. The Denon AVRS940H review demonstrates that it doesn’t work with a projector and even the repeater is useless in such a situation. The Heos app allows choosing different streaming services and controlling the volume.

Sound Quality

The soundstage on the Denon AVRS940H is very distinct, the mids and highs are really precise. It is really great to notice that the receiver continue working normally even after turning the maximum volume on. It doesn’t produce any noise or creaking. The songs run very pure and natural. The surrounded sound can really make an impression of being in the center of events that occur on the screen.

Connectivity

It is great to see how amazing Denon AVRS940H specs are. At the same time, I see that the headphone jack works with disruptions. Sometimes the sound goes to the headphones and sometimes I can’t hear a thing with these on. Perhaps it’s about a low-quality assembly, but other connectors work without problems. It has 8 AV inputs, 8 HDMI inputs, and 2 HDMI outputs that perform their direct functions quick and clear. I also glad to notice that the turntable has its own input.

Setup

The calibration performs step by step and without unnecessary pauses. After finishing, I can even not to use Dolby Atmos, because the basic 5.1 speaker produces a fascinating sound. The setting process is really easy and the menu has all the need components. The only problem is a firmware update. It really has a negative influence on the whole system (the receiver becomes frozen, the display shows incorrect information) and I have to re-establish factory settings. The on-screen assistant helps me do everything right.

Conclusion

The device can be a great helper in the entertainment atmosphere creation. 2 Denon apps (Heos and AVR Remote) greatly cooperate with the receiver and easily install the smartphone. It has some not very pleasant moments and they are able to change the positive impression.
