Denon AVRS730H review & specs

Denon AVRS730H – an excellent sound for the money

Denon-AVRS730H

In general, the Denon AVRS730H review shows that this receiver does everything the customer can need it to do well. It does a lot, for the given affordable price. You cannot say that is a waste. This unit powers two DefTech Promonitor 1000’s and a DefTech Mythos soundbar hooked up to TCL 55 inch 4K TV. The ARC channel works flawlessly and the sound quality at this price point is nothing less than stunning. If you need a quality home theater receiver for not a lot of $ this one deserves a look-see.

Design

The S730H is a good receiver, packed with a lot of cool and newer features. It's a big black box brimming with both buttons and dials, yet still has a modicum of style. Otherwise, the design looks pretty much like every other Denon in recent memory with a large volume button on the right and an LED display in the center. Minimalistic style is one another specialty of Denon receivers.

Features

This receiver is great. Too many options for using and plenty of power to go around. Highly recommend for anyone who looking for a budget receiver that does have ATMOS. The passthrough using the arc port works flawlessly changing its own channels when it sees you can go for cable to Blu-Ray.

My favorite feature is how you can calibrate the speakers to your specific room. Has a bit of a 'smart' feature where it will swap to an active input if the current input is inactive (for example: if I boot up the XB1 when a Fire TV is in 'snooze' mode, or vice versa), although this only seems to work when the current input has been inactive for some time.

However, I need to mention, this device sometimes refuses to appear on the Spotify app, even when the other wired connections on the network switch are working completely fine and I checked it with other devices, they worked well. Not a serious issue, for those who use another app for streaming music.

Performance

The latest features are excellent, played from iPhone, Audyssey setup seems to sound better, the updated remote App is great, and the HEOS capability is excellent. More than adequate to run home theater system in a large room. High current power output devices on all channels, the AVR-S730H delivers high power and is rated at a maximum of 165 watts per channel. For compatibility with the widest range of loudspeakers, the AVR-S730H is equipped with low impedance drive capability that provides operational stability with 4-ohm speakers. If you're looking for an entry-level receiver with 7 channels of audio and decent sound quality, this would be a good receiver for you.

Sound Quality

Let me tell you the sound quality on this Denon is fantastic and it has enough power for now. Let's imagine that you have a small room maybe 10x10, so how much noise do you need? It will fulfill every gap of the space with crystal and quality sound, this super machine can amaze even the most rigorous audiophile. Enjoy superb audio fidelity with your favorite high-resolution audio tracks. The AVR-S730H features high-resolution audio decoding with multiple lossless file types including ALAC, FLAC and WAV at up to 24-bit/196-kHz along with compatibility for 2.8/5.6-MHz DSD files (DSD is the audio coding format of SACD). Very clear surround sound with ceiling mounted speakers.

Connectivity

HDCP 2.2 technology ensures compatibility with 4K Ultra HD sources and TVs (all HDMI inputs and monitor output). HDR-compatible for extended picture contrast and brightness with compatible 4K TVs and HDR-encoded content. Also, The AVR-S730H supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I’m glad to say that Denon interoperability has improved over the years. An HDMI cable from this receiver’s output to the ARC can enable input of a TV allowed PCM multichannel sound to flow back into the receiver and gave superpowers to the TV’s remote. You can wake up the receiver, control the volume, and even drive the interface of an Apple TV all through HDMI. Similarly, the volume buttons on the Siri remote just worked, and waking up the Apple TV wakes up the other two.

Setup

All the Denon AVRS730H specs provide good sound, it is easy to set up and balance, with the included microphone and cardboard microphone stand. I will give it five stars. This receiver has been stellar so far. Simple to set up and just works great out of the box and sounds great in a small home surround set up. Having Airplay and Spotify Connect is great for playing music from a phone or computer. iPhone apps are great too. Easy on-screen install and speaker identification made the set up a breeze! For maximum ease of setup, the AVR features a horizontal row of color-coded premium loudspeaker connectors, and it comes with a set of color-coded speaker cable labels that help ensure correct speaker cable hookup the very first time. With our exclusive Setup Assistant along with the Quick Start Guide, you can connect and configure your home theater system quickly and easily. The Setup Assistant features clear on-screen graphics and text that quickly and easily guide you through the setup process, optimizing critical system settings for the best possible sound quality.

Conclusion

This is a solid choice if you are on a budget. The affordable price, the great the power, the wide range of formats supported, the HDMI, etc. All the latest bells and whistles you might want or need. Sound quality is excellent; setup is as easy as a cake. Otherwise, the auto speaker setup and all the defaults sound amazing. HEOS speakers are designed to get the most out of the HEOS enabled AVR/amps. Great product. For the price, this Denon is great for not only starters but Audiophiles as well.
