Samsung 43NU7100 vs TCL 43S517 is the alternative for the middle-class small LED TVs of the new generation. The series NU7100 is the 2018 Samsung release. It features perfect synchronization and good image quality with expressed contrasts. However, the VA display matrix doesn’t enable good angle view. It provides basic Smart TV options while lacking some more sophisticated ones (like picture in picture). The TCL series is S517 (2018) with the same matrix supported by the Edge LED, making the TV thinner but providing uneven image highlighting. It has a wide range of colors and decent contrast.
With TCL 43S517 vs Samsung 43NU7100, the image details go first. Samsung 43NU7100 is impressive in SDR, producing vivid colors with numerous hues. The blacks are profound and solid. However, in HDR10, the image lacks brightness, while the range of the color specter is vast. Dynamics is acceptable, while insufficient for thrillers. To compare, the TCL 43S517 provides very bright juicy colors in both SDR and HDR modes, with smooth accurate transitions. The contrasts are sharp, the resolution is perfect outlining every inconspicuous detail. The TCL features increased brightness in the corners of display versus usual problem of Edge LED TVs.
Samsung 43NU7100 does not possess some advanced options like local dimming, yet has a BFI tech built-in. This adds a black frame into the chain, making the motion more fluent. This Smart TV has a minimalistic comprehensive interface, which is easy to navigate and set up the TV. The TCL’s menu is also a no-brainer. It provides separate departments for all the apps used. However, it does not allow much control over the TV options and functions. Both TVs support most of the modern video formats while lacking the surround sound for audio.
Samsung 43NU7100 is slightly bigger in height and wideness than TCL 43S517 while being visibly thinner. Yet, the TCL is more lightweight and easier to wall-mount. It also has a larger display area. Both models have similar sturdy legs and simple remotes. The TCL remote features the basic navigation buttons, while the Samsung’ one has dedicated controls for setting, image scaling, and other handy functions.
