Read MoreRegardless of the music you like or listen to for whatever reason, you will not be unsatisfied with YST-SW012 vs SW-8MK2 subwoofers. If you need more power handling capabilities, Yamaha makes it. If there are preferable more powerful bass extortion, Pioneer is for you. You can go larger, but definitely not better for this money.
Yamaha YST-SW012 can be really loud and low. It shook my entire theatre system and filled it with bass, versus it Pioneer proposes more deep sound for acoustic music.
I really like the back volume control of Yamaha for the bass, it set it at the halfway point. Compare adjustments to the volume and roll-off on Pioneer SW-8MK2, so that rumble and bass drum thump are there with no overwhelming the precise yet sweet a5 sounds.
It is like a revelation: Pioneer SW-8MK2 has deep bass notes even in acoustic guitar music and many deep basses in movie scores. Compact Yamaha`s cutoff gives clear strong bass notes and some heart-shaking vibes without even a hint of boominess. For relatively small money Yamaha YST-SW012 does exactly what a music aficionado like me craves.
The SW-8MK2 is a perfect size, its sound is amazing, the bass is solid, so it is possible to feel it. Clear, crisp sound. The user should not abuse this sub by playing it too loud, playing material with excessively boosted bass and/or boosting the LFE signal. It is a musical sub that fills the bass "hole" in a medium room (stereo and/or surround) with small speakers.
Have used Yamaha YST-SW012 with everything from the Tuner, Turntable, and computer, and it really improves them all considerably. In comparison to Pioneer SW-8MK2 the unit from Yamaha provides not room shaking, but more than adequate for a medium sized apartment living room. Overall very pleased with this product and would recommend highly.
With big pleasure recommend both these subwoofers to consumers who live in apartments, or smaller, older homes (without huge open floor plans), who appreciate good sound, but are not necessarily looking to turn their living room into a dance club.
The overall sound signature is richer and more textured, and, it performs especially well. Like this Yamaha YST-SW012 and am pleased with its overall performance, especially considering the price and value. The size of the unit lets to tuck it under an end table and still point in a direction to bounce sound off the walls. Yamaha YST-SW012 gives a mightful thump and deep rich bass sound.
Excellent performing subwoofer at a bargain price. Fantastic for listening to music regardless of genre. Movies sound great, quite deep and impactful. The overall outstanding audio budget unit as a subwoofer. AMP hums constantly. Very noticeable even in standby mode or when there is no bass in movies or music.
