BenQ HT3050 vs BenQ HT2050: DLP Projectors with FHD Resolution

BenQ HT3050 vs BenQ HT2050A

Features

The compared models are Full HD (1920 x 1080) DLP projectors from BenQ's HT series. The HT3050 is a slightly more expensive model, so it's not surprising that the BenQ HT3050 vs BenQ HT2050 examination shows that it seems to have more advanced properties. Nevertheless, its opposer also has its noteworthy advantages. For example, the HT2050 has a better projection distance (3.2 – 22.9 feet versus 3.2 – 16.4 feet).

Let's start by marking the main similarities between the tested models:

  • They have the same contrast ratio (15000:1).
  • The models meet the Rec.709 color accuracy standard.
  • Despite having different brightness levels, both projectors have the same lamp life of 3500 hours (5000 hours in the Eco mode).
  • These BenQ projectors have the same Zoom Ratio (1.3x).
  • The projection screen size is also identical (60 inches min/180 inches max).
  • Both of them use an all-glass lens.

The difference in their brightness level is not critical unless you need a projector for outdoor use. The HT2050 has 2200 lumens while the HT3050 has 2000 lumens. You may think that because of this, the first model features better picture quality, but that's actually not true. The BenQ HT2050 vs HT3050 side-by-side picture comparison demonstrates that the HT3050 has more accurately calibrated colors, so it provides a more refined picture (especially in the Cinema mode). I tried to calibrate the HT2050 picture to optimize its color reproduction, but the HT3050 picture still looks better by its default settings.

The HT3050 is in the winning position when it comes to input lag. With 50ms, it is way below the HT2050 that has only 33ms being a more profitable option for gaming.

In terms of audio reproduction, the HT3050 has a pair of 10W stereo speakers (20W in total) while the HT2050 features only a 10W mono speaker.

Design & Build Quality

It's hard to confuse these two projectors as they have some well-visible distinctions. The HT3050 features a brushed gold front panel while the HT2050 has a brushed silver one. The main bodies of both models are covered by a glossy white finish.

Although both projectors have approximately the same physical dimensions, the HT3050 appears to be a bit heavier (8.1 lbs vs 7.27 lbs). Except for tabletop placement, both projectors allow for front and ceiling mounts.

There are no distinctions to compare when it comes to available ports. The models have the same set of connectors with the same arrangement on the rear of both projectors. They include 2 HDMIs, VGA, composite video input, 3.5mm audio input, RS232, and 2 USB ports (Type-A and Mini-B). Both of them don't allow for wireless connection.

The layout of onboard controls is also identical. Both projectors have all the control buttons located on their top panels. In total, they have 12 buttons for basic management (Menu, Source, Power on/off buttons, etc.).

Pros & Cons

BenQ HT3050

VS

Pros

    • In comparison with the previous projector, this one is able to cover 30 inches more of a screen diagonal with the maximum of 180 inches.
    • No light leakage is seen in black colors.
    • You can calibrate the color scheme to find a perfect picture in your ambient light.
    • It offers both horizontal and vertical keystone adjustments.
    • The projector has an MHL-enabled HDMI port.
    • The built-in speakers have an audio enhancement feature.

Cons

    • After the lamp bulb serves its term, it is complicated to replace it because of a too-tight screw holding it.
    • The projector is prone to show rainbow artifacts.
    • It doesn't perform so well when it comes to dark scenes: they look too dark and, hence, barely visible.

BenQ HT2050A

VS

Pros

    • It has a low level of heat emission during work.
    • Its high brightness level makes it work well in good light conditions.

Cons

    • It has only vertical keystone adjustment.
    • The projector shows some colorful flashes in black-and-white videos.
