What is your best choice - Pioneer SC-LX901 or Yamaha RX-A3070BL?

Pioneer SC-LX901 vs Yamaha RX-A3070BL

SC-LX901 - Pioneer's Elite receiver line

Having had an opportunity to test Pioneer SC-LX901 vs Yamaha RX-A3070BL, I’d like to share my impression here to facilitate your choice of a new receiver.

SC-LX901 is well–equipped for the cutting-edge multi-dimensional surround sound, besides the SC–LX901 is able to deliver dynamic content to eleven channels at a time, I was overwhelmed with the opportunity and the sound quality and effect. Though I am a fan of the internet radio, the function of listening to it is on board, I enjoyed variable streaming music services and cast my much-loved music to the receiver with a mobile app, a great option as for me.

Pros Pioneer SC-LX901:

  • I don’t like a flamboyant design, with Pioneer it’s ideal –ergonomic and strict, just what I like. The drop-down door hides several most important control buttons, jack plugs, and inputs, while around back there are multiple source connections to meet any need.
  • A full 11 channels of amplification, no external 2-channel amp is needed, for me it’s great.
  • Working with the latest video formats, and converts all signals to HDMI output; I was astonished to see the upscaled 1080p signals as an image of indistinguishable from native 4k quality.
  • I sent video to several displays in either the same or a separate room, was quite satisfied with the experience.
  • The same is with the Fire Connect--the wireless multi-room protocol allows sending audio to the wireless speakers.
  • Multiple multi-room wireless audio schemes work perfectly.
  • I also tested a remote control app to use a mobile device for control and the work is flawless.

Cons Pioneer SC-LX901:

  • The interface for streaming music services is slow when used with remote control.
  • Auro3D capability is not available, hope it is on the road.
  • 880 watts are not guaranteed onboard.
  • Sound format in use is not displayed, however, it’s more of a matter of preference than a drawback.

Let’s now turn to Yamaha RX-A3070BL vs Pioneer SC-LX901. It will make our receiver comparison more clear.

Yamaha RX-A3070BL – performs at the very best level and holds the top spot

Yamaha RX-A3070BL is a top quality AV receiver providing a great, intense sound for movies and music sources.

Yamaha RX-A3070BL PROS:

  • The channels are isolated, so signal to noise ratio is improved and a wide-open sound achieved in the perfect life-like quality.
  • MusicCast wireless connectivity is great (up to 9 premises), I managed to control the receive across multiple zones simultaneously via my domestic Wi-Fi, including different source inputs and volume.
  • Wireless Direct feature allows streaming music directly from a mobile device and controlling the receiver as well.

Yamaha RX-A3070BL CONS:

  • No Windows compatible AV controller app, If your mobile device is on windows, do not go for this model.
  • Inconvenient Remote control, for me personally, the buttons and the figures are too small.

Do you still hesitate to take Yamaha RX-A3070BL or Pioneer SC-LX901?

Actually, both flagship models have much in common. The choice of the one versus the other in fact, comes down to personal preferences in sound signature, here I would definitely vote for Pioneer. If you want 11 channels of amplification – then go for Pioneer, in case 9 is enough but Auro3D is significant for you then choose Yamaha. Your choice may also be determined by the preference of particular network services, remote control navigation schemes or compatibility with a particular wireless multi-room audio technology. Think what is essential to you and go ahead with your long-awaited purchase!
