Yamaha RX-V485BL is a well-known receiver in this specific market. This receiver is able to produce 4K video quality, compatible with other devices and maintains all audio formats. However, what are the main disadvantages and hidden pitfalls of this receiver? I decided to test the gadget and write this Yamaha RX-V485BL review in order to help you avoid problems in the future.
It’s hard to describe but I really like this design even despite the fact that I keen on minimalistic design without any additional and useless elements. Yes, there are a lot of asymmetrical elements on the front side of this receiver, but it still looks great. The high-quality materials of the solid construction are impressive as well. On the other hand, I have to mention that I don’t really like this remote controller. It’s a real problem to push buttons and change setting if you use this controller. As for the size of Yamaha RX-V485BL, it’s relatively big (17.86 pounds), but there are a lot of competitors, which are significantly bigger.
I really like that they decided to add the smartphone remote control because it makes my life significantly easier. This application is well-optimized and it works well both on iPhone X and Samsung Note 8 as well. However, the developers decided that their users don’t need multi-room function, that’s why I cannot listen to music in the bedroom while my girlfriend is listening to music in another room. There are also a sleep timer, built-in clock, and auto power off but I don’t think that these features are really crucial.
This receiver is able to produce 4K or 3D picture and supports high dynamic range, including HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Hybrid Log Gamma as well. However, I’ve noticed that there is a problem with overheating because the construction was too hot after several hours of using. Be aware! It’s also really strange that there are only 3 built-in decoders, while its competitors also provide all types of decoders. Of course, it is enough to get a great user experience, but I don’t like to get limited user possibilities. On the other hand, we should probably remember about the price, which is relatively low and only after that, make our conclusions.
As for the sound quality, it’s quite normal. I didn’t notice any additional noises or problems at all. Everything works well! It’s like a real cinema at your home. This receiver maintains all audio formats. However, I think that an extra subwoofer port would tempt me into going with a 5.2-system. There is also AM/FM radio, but if we take into account the fact that we can connect this receiver to Spotify, Pandora, Napster or Apple Music, I don’t think that FM radio is really important. I was also impressed because there’s a quick auto-calibration, which makes users’ lives a bit easier.
Even despite the fact that there are several problems, which are connected with connectivity (there are no Dolby and DTS-HD), I have to admit that it’s quite comfortable to use this receiver. It’s compatible with Alexa. However, keep in mind that Alexa integration requires both the MusicCast extension and signing into the Yamaha website. I also really like that there is a full set of different jacks, HDMI commands and HDMI ports, which can make my life significantly easier. It’s quite enough to please my day-to-day needs.
To be honest, I think that set up was quite simple. It took 30 minutes and I managed to turn it on, tried the Bluetooth function, Alexa compatibility, and even Wi-Fi connection. If you use the receiver for the very first time I can recommend you to use printed manuals. They will solve a lot of problems.
The Yamaha RX-V485Bl specs are really impressive. It’s a reliable and very powerful receiver, which can please your needs without problems. Of course, there are several pitfalls such as overheating and absence of some decoders but do not forget about the price of this receiver, which is relatively low. So, keep calm and make your choice!
