ELAC Uni-fi UB5: High-Enders for a Budget Price

ELAC Uni-fi UB5
Good speakers for both home theater and music lovers alike at the price range under 500$.

A distinctive feature of the Uni-Fi UB5, as well as all the speakers of this model range, is the use of high-quality radiators, which guarantee a dynamic sound with convincing bass, despite the small size of the speakers. A remarkable feature about performance is how the speakers are balanced out, resulting in a much more spacious sound stage and significantly refined highs with noticeably details. With its minimalist design, it will be good enough for high-enders and mainstreamers alike. It should be noticed that these speakers do much better when they are driven by a more powerful amplifier that could be expensive. It is probably one of the most compact speakers. Uni-Fi UB5 has a generally neutral tonal balance and a wide dynamic range, which allows them to be recommended for listening to music of various genres.

Pros

  • Very deep, rich, musical bass frequencies.
  • Convenient to use, stylish, small-sized speakers.

Cons

  • You will most likely need a powerful amplifier if you want to feel all the sound depth.

ELAC B6 Debut: Simple, Modern & Affordable

ELAC B6 Debut
A large stand mounts speakers with a 6.5 in. driver and semi-dome mounted tweeter. As far as build quality is concerned, it doesn’t look like budget speakers. It comes with an attractive vinyl wrap, so the look is clean and modern but simple. It’s under 300$ price range for a pair, very even-handed speakers with deep bass and the slightest hint of a vocal presence boost. In smaller rooms, no subwoofer is necessary as the bass is noticeably strong. They sound good with most appliances: home cinema or a stereo music system (but only with good-quality music). However, they also demand a good amplifier, as the Uni-fi UB5 speakers do, but since their price is lower, it will be more profitably to buy a good amplifier along with these speakers.

Pros

  • The speakers offer best-in-class sound quality.
  • Spacious sound with plenty of details.
  • Offers high-quality build and attractive look.

Cons

  • The speakers need an amplifier and good quality music to show their power.

ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2: Clear Sound & Quality Build

ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2
The ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 speakers are taller and more slender than a previous model and, besides, with the front opening phase inverter. With a classic ebony finish retro design they actually look really pleasant. Moreover, if in the previous model the tweeter was built in the front panel, due to which the sound was more directional, now they are on a par which allowed improving the sound performance. They also need to be connected to the receiver or amplifier. The speakers have a rather high sensitivity, 87 dB and the frequency range 44 – 35000Hz – the last parameter indicates that the B6.2 can be used in rooms of small and medium sizes. Just as the B6, it is not recommended to buy them without a subwoofer: you definitely need it because you don’t get the depth of the bass and even its details.

Pros

  • Almost the same value as a previous model but with clearer sound and better build quality.
  • The front-facing bass port allows placing them close to the walls.

Cons

  • Not as easy to use as its predecessor.
